Watch Satellite TV on PC - Edge Over Cable and Satellite TV

Watch satellite TV on PC, conventional satellite dish systems or cable TV? Nowadays, TV viewers are spoilt for choice and it can be challenging to make a choice. Depending on your needs, your home location and budget, there is a whole range of alternatives and different TV program packages for you. The key here is to be well informed about the pros and cons of each system. We will compare the different TV systems and you make your own choice on whether to watch satellite TV on PC or other means. How's that?

If you are not staying in a built up area and do not have access to cable TV, it makes perfect sense and necessity for you to go with satellite TV. After all, you would need a TV antenna in order to receive from the TV earth stations. So adding a satellite dish system is more appropriate, since you neither can watch satellite TV on PC or cable TV. However, this said, not everyone likes the idea of installing a satellite dish on their roofs. Firstly, it can be a hassle and not the simplest chore for folks who are not too hands-on. Secondly, the DIY equipment such as the satellite dish, receiver and decoders, mount, etc is not exactly cheap. Some guys prefer to do it on their own as a hobby. That's perfectly fine but for most folks, it would be better if they can wait out for special deals offered by satellite TV providers which include free installations. Sometimes, the service providers may supply the necessary setup for more than 3 rooms within a household.

Satellite TV provides a much wider coverage that cable TV network. Again, this is not always the case and is true only for advanced satellite TV technology and subscription packages offered by service providers. The heat is always on between satellite TV and cable TV to compete in the space of variety and number of channels. You, as a consumer benefits from either way. However, since the usage of cable is more applicable in built-up areas, they tend to lose out to satellite TV in rural areas. Otherwise, in built-up city areas, it would be a tough fight. There is of course a third option to watch satellite TV on PC which gives you the advantage of more worldwide channels over cable and even conventional satellite TV. Be sure to scout around for good deals.

Reception quality is hardly debatable. Satellite TV systems have gone the route of digital broadcasting. With digital that employs sophisticated signal compression techniques, the resolution is higher and sharper and more channels can be broadcast simultaneously. Even though cable TV is making the move towards digital, unfortunately, a lot of homes are still using analog channels. We all know that analog picture quality is poorer than digital so whether you watch satellite TV on PC or TV, your viewing experience is enhanced.

There is a growing community of satellite TV viewers switching to watch satellite TV on PC for several reasons. Internet users are growing at an astronomical rate and since people are already facing their PCs, it is natural for them to watch satellite TV on PC as well. At the same time, in order to watch satellite TV on PC, you need nothing more than an installed PC satellite TV software and fast internet connection. It is gaining popularity among TV lovers and even college kids can afford to do so.

Watch Satellite TV on PC - How?

To watch satellite TV on PC or internet satellite TV is the future for TV viewers like us to watch our favorite shows. This is a bold statement but from the rising popularity of PC satellite TV in American homes, it could become a reality. So how do we set up our computer to watch satellite TV on PC? Right below, we will look at several things we need in order to set it right.

1. PCTV Card

Technology is advancing so rapidly that it is incredibly easy for you to watch satellite TV on PC or listen to radio through a PC. All you need is hardware known as a PCTV card. There are two types of PCTV cards. One is installed internally onto the motherboard, while the second type is an external gadget that needs to be plugged into your PC via a USB port.

These cards are designed to make sure of your PC?s architecture and infrastructure to decode the satellite TV signals upon reception. This then allows you to watch free-to-air digital TV and radio programs. There are even cards with built-in processor which creates a separate frame for you to watch satellite TV channel while you are running other programs simultaneously. No matter which you choose both are specifically designed to receive internet satellite TV. The requests for TV feeds are made through the phone line and data is received at 40MB per second via the satellite dish as the source.

2. PC Minimum Configuration

The following are the minimum specifications to watch satellite TV on PC:

a. Your PC processor should be at least a Pentium II 333 MHz.

b. Operating system should be Windows 98, ME, 2000 or XP.

c. USB Port

d. CD-ROM Drive

e. Quality Sound Card

f. Quality Graphics Card

Pentium II is obsolete by today?s standard as many software applications require higher processing speeds. So we presume almost every computer at home should qualify. In fact, the other peripherals such as sound and graphics card are less important for basic viewing. With the minimum requirements, you can watch satellite TV on PC in pretty sharp resolution and clarity.

But if you are a self-declared TV addict who sticks to the screen, then perhaps you may want to boost the viewing experience with hardware modifications. Buy a high-end Radeon or GeForce and ramp up the sound quality with the latest version of Sound Blaster.

How I Got Live Satellite Tv On My PC

We wanted to get Satellite TV, and my Dad was going to goto one of the big box stores and buy a satellite system. I told him that I thought I found find a better deal online, so we went ahead and looked. I found a few good deals, but the one we went with was such a good deal!

We can watch over 2500 channels on my screen, and we didn't have to buy any extra hardware! The great thing about this, is that you can watch it when you travel, as it is available ANYWHERE in the world. Next month we are going on a trip to Europe, so I will try it then and let you know how it works. The quality is superb, and even on my oldest computer it runs fast!

After I ordered it, I was setup and running in less then an hour! I had a question about a couple of the channels, and the tech support got back to me in minutes! It is very easy to use, my Dad can use it and he knows nothing about computers.

One thing my dad loves about it is that he can watch international games such as soccer, hockey and football! This is great, it saves us from having to pay for pay-per-view games, or missing the game altogether. The other thing we like is that we can pause the TV as we are watching it, or if we are at work/school we can have it record shows for us for playback later. It is 100% LEGAL!

Watch Satellite TV on Your Computer?

I have always wanted to watch television on my pc or notebook. In fact, several years ago I purchased a tv tuner that plugged into my laptop with a USB connector. It worked, although the picture wasn't great. But, I also needed cable access to a tv signal source, and that was a serious pain. I travel a lot. There have been countless times that I've been stuck in a hotel room when some live event was on somewhere in the world, and I couldn't watch it because the hotel just didn't have the right channel. Or there would be some particular tv show I wanted to watch, which wasn't available with the limited hotel services. Another problem I had was that I spent a lot of time working in different countries, and often the local television was predominantly in a foreign language. Some of these countries had very limited cable or satellite television. Mostly I had no way of accessing tv programs in my own language, which in my case is English. I always thought it would be fantastic if I could just plug in my laptop and watch whatever tv service and whatever channel I wanted whenever I felt like it. Well, I just recently made a fantastic discovery! With the advent of high speed internet, improved computers, and the latest developments in software, it has now become possible to watch any television show you want, anywhere in the world. This includes live broadcasts of major sporting events. You can now buy software which installs with a simple download onto your pc or laptop which allows you to view at least 3000 channels worldwide, includes a vast menu of foreign language programs. There are premium versions of the same software that will allow you to view over 4000 channels. Hardware of any kind for your computer is not required, unlike until quite recently, when you needed a tv card or an external tv receiver. What is even more remarkable is that you pay just a one-time membership fee for the software, and you can watch the tv channels for free - forever! There are no monthly fees, which is quite a significant saving. Frankly, I can't speak to highly about the convenience and benefits of this software. It's extremely simple to install and the software interface is very easy to operate. I strongly recommend you give it a try. The software manufacturer offers a money back guarantee, so you've got nothing to lose. It really is a no-brainer.

Read why people are calling it quits with their satellite services to watch satellite TV on PC.

Advantages to Watch Satellite TV on PC

1. Cheap Setup and No Monthly Subscription

Setting up your PC to watch satellite TV only requires an internet connection and proprietary software developed to capture satellite TV channels. In case you are thinking that the software costs a bomb, then you would be surprised to know that it is available to average families at no more than the price of 2 CD albums. If you always find it expensive to be paying monthly subscriptions to service providers, this software would be a great money-saver to you and your family.

2. Excellent Transmission and Viewing Quality

Since it runs on your internet connection, it is not affected by poor transmission problems which your old satellite dish system experiences. You will no longer miss a single episode of your favorite TV show due to sudden disruptions arising from storms. Folks who watch satellite TV on PC can avoid these problems.

A computer with minimum 512MB RAM is sufficient. If your computer is an antique, then it is time to upgrade it. Newer computers are easily equipped with higher RAM capacity. I would encourage you to use broadband connection to ensure the smooth transmission of TV feeds. There are viewers who have bought theater systems with subwoofers, speakers and so on to boost the audio effects when watching satellite TV on their PC. This is optional but if you are looking for special surround sound effect, then, you can consider that.

4. Wide Selection of TV Channels

The huge selection of satellite TV stations to choose from is another plus point to watch satellite TV on PC. In the past, people who want to watch special programs or movies have to pay per viewing. Watching Satellite TV on PC Is Easier Than You Think

Plug your satellite TV receiver into your PC

Did you know that watching satellite TV on your PC could be as simple as plugging a lead from a satellite receiver into a socket on your PC? Yes it's as simple as that.

If you've bought a PC or even a notebook PC in the last few years the chances are that it's already satellite TV ready. You may not even have noticed the strange rectangular sockets on your computer that are your incredibly useful Universal Serial Bus (USB) ports. USB is what makes your PC satellite TV ready.

USB isn't just for Satellite TV

USB wasn't developed just for watching satellite television, it's an incredibly versatile interface capable of connecting to all kind of computer peripherals like monitors, audio speakers, cameras, keyboards, mice and a thousand other things, many of which haven't been invented yet.

There are two versions of USB in service at the time of writing. The oldest and slowest standard is version 1.0 (and 1.1) but it's version 2 that is the real performer. It's 40 times faster than version 1 and powerful enough to handle even high definition TV (HDTV). Some plug-in satellite receivers will work with USB 1 but you should try to use version 2 wherever you can. The vast majority of PC's manufactured in the last few years support USB 2.

What do you need to watch satellite TV for PC?

You need a computer with modest specification by today's standards, to take advantage of satellite TV on your PC. If you are interested in HDTV then your computer will need to be slightly more powerful. The following minimum specification should serve you well in all cases:

  • Microsoft? Windows? XP
  • Microsoft? Windows? Media Player 9.0 or later
  • Microsoft? DirectX9.0C or later
  • VGA card with at least 32MB memory
  • P4 2G MHZ CPU or above
  • 256MB RAM or above
  • One free USB 2.0 port
  • Sound card or on board sound chip

You will also need a satellite dish and LNB and a USB satellite TV receiver with DVB-S (Digital Video Broadcast for Satellite). You should get the dish and LNB installed by a professional.

How to connect the satellite receiver to your PC

When your satellite dish and LNB have been installed you can connect the cable from the dish to your USB satellite TV receiver. Then you should install the software that came with your satellite receiver onto your computer. When you have done that you can connect your satellite TV receiver to your PC using the USB cable that should come with your USB enabled receiver. You can plug the cable into any USB socket on your PC but try to make sure that it's a USB 2 socket. Some PC's have a mixture of USB 1 and 2 sockets so it's worth making sure.

Now start the software and start enjoying satellite TV on PC.
